Liberatory Leaders

a programmatic structure that lives out key parts of BLOC's vision for leaders: connect Black Men Leaders with each other through a supportive community.

As a program, we know that school and systems leaders have limited time. Liberatory Leaders offers intentionally placed professional learning for all leaders that support Black men in educational careers. We also partner with MCEL (Men of Color in Educational Leadership) to deepen our work with Black Men Leaders.

Back to School Leaders of Color Brunch

A safe space for educators of color to network, eat food and mingle. A speaker welcomes and addresses the audience and wishes them a great school year. Then, there is a leader who offers resources, whether it was a book or resources to support their staff. The events end with an activity that grounds us in authentic leadership.

Fall and Spring Site Visits

Liberatory Leaders is dedicated to supporting and diversifying the landscape of educational leaders by visiting three schools that feature leaders of color, especially male of color. The visit is about an hour and features elementary schools, secondary schools, charter schools and schools with different types of programming.

The goal is to feature unique programming or initiatives taking place in the Greater Kansas City area while placing black leaders in the room to brainstorm and share their success stories within their buildings.

End of Year School Leaders of Color Brunch

BLOC’s opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of leaders of color. We highlight and provide space for leaders to share their accomplishments, and honor esteemed leaders who have exemplified BLOC values within the community.
